The Right Material for the Toughest Rooms
Luxury Vinyl Plank — LVP — is the right choice for spaces that get water, traffic, sunlight, and wear that hardwood would struggle with. Kitchens, basements, mudrooms, laundry rooms, sun-faded rooms, rental properties, and busy entryways. At Lotus Wood Flooring, we install LVP across Fairfield County with the same crew, the same prep standards, and the same licensed CT-contractor workmanship we bring to our hardwood projects. LVP isn't a downgrade. In the right room, it's the better material.

Where LVP Outperforms Hardwood
LVP isn't trying to replace hardwood. It's the better choice in specific scenarios where solid or engineered wood would warp, fade, or wear too quickly.
Kitchens
Spills, dropped pans, dishwasher leaks, dog water bowls. LVP handles all of it without water damage. Hardwood in a busy family kitchen will eventually need refinishing or board replacement; LVP won't.
Basements
Below-grade humidity and the occasional water event make hardwood a bad bet. LVP installs cleanly over concrete and tolerates the moisture conditions that ruin hardwood.
Mudrooms & Laundry Rooms
Salt, wet boots, washing machine leaks. These rooms eat hardwood. LVP shrugs them off.
Sun-Faded Rooms
Large south-facing windows can bleach hardwood unevenly over the years. LVP holds its color.
Rentals & Investment Properties
LVP gives you a premium look with much lower maintenance and a faster turnaround between tenants. It's also more forgiving of the wear-and-tear that comes with rental use.
High-Traffic Entryways & Hallways
Grit and shoe traffic dull hardwood finishes over time. LVP wears better in the same spots.
If you're considering LVP because you want a hardwood-look floor that doesn't require the maintenance, you're making the right call. If you want the warmth, depth, and resale value of real hardwood and the room conditions support it, we'll tell you so — and quote you the hardwood project instead. We're not going to upsell or downsell you. We're going to tell you which material fits the room.
LVP vs. Hardwood — A Quick Guide
| Choose LVP when… | Choose hardwood when… |
|---|---|
| The room gets significant moisture (kitchen, basement, mudroom, laundry) | The room is living space (great room, dining room, bedroom, hallway above grade) |
| Below-grade or over-concrete installation | Above-grade installation with proper subfloor |
| Heavy pet traffic with scratches as a primary concern | You want long-term resale value and willingness to refinish every 7–10 years |
| Rental or investment property | Owner-occupied home where craftsmanship matters most |
| Budget needs to land lower than full hardwood | Premium look is the priority and budget allows for solid or engineered wood |
| You want a faster, less invasive installation | You're willing to invest in the longer install + finish timeline for the result |
We walk every client through this frame in the first conversation. There's no penalty for changing your mind once we've measured.
Premium LVP, Not Builder-Grade Vinyl
Not all LVP is the same. Builder-grade vinyl plank can look cheap, peel, and fail in 3–5 years. Premium LVP — thicker wear layer, better core construction, photo-realistic surface print, and a tight click-lock system — looks closer to real hardwood than most people expect, and it holds up for 15–25 years under normal residential use.
We work with premium LVP product lines from established manufacturers with strong warranties. When you book a project, we'll bring samples to your home so you can see and feel the product before you commit. If you have a specific brand or product you want us to source, we'll quote that too — full material supply is part of our service.

Our Process in Four Simple Steps
We keep your LVP project straightforward so you always know what to expect — from the first photo or measurement to the day we hand back the room.
- Step 1

Book a Free Estimate
Send us photos for a same-day quote on smaller jobs, or schedule a free 20-minute in-home measurement for larger spaces. We'll walk the room with you, talk through subfloor conditions, and lay out the timeline.
- Step 2

Free Inspection
We assess subfloor moisture, levelness, and existing flooring removal scope. For below-grade installs, this step is critical — we won't install over a subfloor we wouldn't trust under our own homes.
- Step 3

Receive a Written Estimate
Itemized quote within 24 hours, valid for 30 days. Material costs are included; you don't need to source LVP from a separate showroom.
- Step 4

We Get to Work
Existing flooring removal, subfloor prep, transitions, and installation handled by our licensed CT crew. Most LVP projects complete in 1–3 days depending on square footage.

Licensed LVP Installation by Connecticut's Hardwood Craftsmen

We're not a flooring pop-up — we're a licensed Connecticut home improvement contractor (#HIC.0666719), Google Guaranteed, with 132 five-star Google reviews and 15+ years of hardwood floor craftsmanship in Fairfield County. The same craftsmen who refinish $20,000 hardwood projects in Greenwich and Westport install the LVP in your kitchen.
Most LVP failures aren't about the product — they're about the prep. Subfloors that aren't level, transitions that aren't planned, moisture barriers that get skipped. The clients who call us a year after a bad LVP install almost always have the same story: someone fast-and-cheap promised an aggressive timeline, skipped the prep, and the floor is now creaking, lifting at the seams, or peaking at the transitions.
We don't skip the prep. We measure subfloor moisture. We level where it matters. We install with the same care we bring to a solid white oak project.

Over 15 years of hands-on experience restoring and installing hardwood floors across Fairfield County and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions about luxury vinyl plank installation? We've got answers.
LVP is a multi-layer waterproof flooring product built around a rigid core (usually stone-plastic composite or wood-plastic composite), topped with a photo-realistic wood-look print layer and a clear wear layer that resists scratches and stains. Premium LVP is engineered to look and feel like real wood while tolerating moisture, traffic, and conditions that would damage hardwood. It installs over concrete, plywood, or existing flat flooring with a tight click-lock system.
It depends on the room. Kitchens, basements, mudrooms, laundry rooms, and sun-heavy or high-moisture spaces are where LVP outperforms hardwood. Great rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and hallways above grade are where hardwood holds its long-term value. We walk every client through this decision in person and tell you which material fits — we don't push one over the other.
Premium LVP with a stone-plastic composite core is fully waterproof — meaning standing water, spills, and routine moisture won't damage the plank itself. The seams between planks are water-resistant, which is why proper installation matters. We use moisture-barrier underlayments where appropriate (especially below grade) so the assembly behaves the way the product is designed to.
Sometimes. LVP can be installed over flat, hard, stable surfaces — concrete, plywood subfloor, some tile, and some existing vinyl. We don't install over carpet, soft underlayments, or floors with significant cupping, warping, or moisture issues. The free in-home measurement is where we check this and tell you whether the existing floor needs to come up first.
Most LVP projects complete in 1–3 days. A typical kitchen or mudroom runs one day; a full basement or multi-room install runs two to three. Larger or more complex jobs (extensive subfloor prep, complicated transitions, multiple rooms) may take longer — we give you an exact timeline in writing with the estimate.
Yes. Existing flooring removal, subfloor cleaning, moisture testing, leveling where required, and transition planning are all part of the project scope. We don't quote a fast price by skipping the prep — that's how LVP installs go wrong. The visible quote includes everything we need to do to install the floor correctly.
